It’s the end of the world as we know, and it tastes fine.

Far be it from me to tell Fox News anchors how to do their jobs, but somehow the existence of a hamburger fails to capture my imagination as a harbinger of the apocalypse…

Sensational reporting, in any case.

FOX NEWS: Vonnegut Obituary

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

A touching send-off for a great author from a smarmy news purveyor.

LiberalViewer has plenty of examples of Fox News interjecting its unique brand of vitriol and commentary into every conceivable aspect of its broadcasting.

I cannot help but think that the author of Harrison Bergeron would appreciate the disregard of Rupert Murdoch’s hell-bent-for-conservatism news outlet – one’s enemies say a lot about one’s own contributions to society.

TV News Wars: “Cause enough … is enough!”

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

I often miss out on television drama because I do not own a television. Fortunately, anything that is worth seeing on television makes its way to the internet fairly quickly… Look at ‘em go!

The talking heads are at it again.

We didn’t promote the event – that’s not what real news organizations are supposed to do. We covered the event.

Cover is kind of like a “fair and balanced” way of doing things. Get it?

You might want to look into that.

It’s about letting Americans make up their own minds.

FOX NEWS: National Healthcare = Terrorists!

Monday, August 17th, 2009

Realistically, the politicking and partisan debate over national healthcare is far more likely to produce home-grown terrorists (the kind of terrorists who aren’t deterred in the least by the “heightened security” afforded with checks at airports and borders) than the advent of healthcare reform is to usher foreign nationals with terrorism agendas into the United States.

Are present-day intimidation tactics and incitement to murder (thanks to Fox’s own Bill O’Reilly) really taking a back seat to the future possibility of terrorists slipping into the country to practice medicine?

Writing of Fox News’ propagandist tactics is enough to make me wish I were the one making things up…

One Hand Washes The Other

Friday, June 26th, 2009

A strong propaganda media presence is necessary for the perpetuation of your regime political party – lest your subjects forget whom to alternately fear and worship.

If your regime happens to operate within a plutocratic semblance of a republic democracy, the next best thing to broadcasting your superiority will be denigrating your opposition.

Where your regime’s political party’s members foul up, be certain that your propaganda media outlet creates the impression that they were members of an alternate regime political party.

After the laughable labeling of disgraced South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford as a Democrat, Intershame thought we’d look back at the other times Fox News has mistakenly mislabeled Republicans. Note what each mislabeled politician was going through when Fox News wrongly identified them as Democrats. It’s these details that make it hard to believe this is coincidence…

Says Obama: Some People Say…

Thursday, April 9th, 2009

The pioneering idea-shapers at Fox News long ago stumbled upon a very sly phrasing which effectively allowed their commentators to interject personal opinion into dialogue, as evinced in this wittily-composed clip from the Fox News exposé OutFoxed:

Invoking the same anonymous “people”, Obama has taken a lesson in persuasive rhetoric:

Often he plays Aunt Sally for rhetorical effect. He doesn’t mischaracterize, exactly, but he exaggerates to bring his point into higher relief—as he did last week when talking about the ongoing threat of terrorism: “Some people say … if we changed our policies with respect to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict or if we were more respectful towards the Muslim world, suddenly these organizations would stop threatening us. That’s just not the case.”

- The Careful Exaggerator by John Dickerson for Slate.com

The problem of persuasive rhetoric and the proverbial smooth operator is that double-edged sword of a tongue – is Obama’s sly talent of manipulating meaning truly serving your interests … and when are you on the receiving end?

Ask him and you’re sure to feel as though you got the answer you were looking for – regardless of what has been said.
