Take a look around – chances are that you are either capable, in middle management, a teacher, and/or useless.

Let's keep in mind that the premise of the hierarchy requires that those in question are unable to do the thing they are involved in. It takes a special type of individual to rise in the ranks rather than abandon the pursuit of whatever it is he or she sucks so thoroughly at.

To reiterate what Bill failed to understand: everyone is probably capable of activities which do not land them on the hierarchy.

The hierarchy is reserved for explaining situations in which one is confronted with clueless middle managers, teachers who have no grasp on the concepts they read rote from textbooks, and "customer service professionals" who lack any semblance of personable attitude.

well, i'm a teacher of sorts. i guess that lands me in the middle of the hierarchy. but, for what it's worth, i get a lot of time off from work as a teacher and my ambitions are oriented more towards self-development (as i define it) than towards monetary accomplishment (which i perceive to be misguided).
that said, people holding a position somewhere below the top of the hierarchy are most likely prone to take offense if their ego was damaged in some way. gotta protect that ego.

Glad to hear from you - comments like your own are my raison d'être.

You've expressed some valid concerns, so let's categorically review the points which you decided to raise:

And that puts you where? All of the above? - Yes, as a matter of fact. We all belong somewhere on The Sucker Hierarchy in some of our undertakings. That I have decided to describe the hierarchy is an expression of cynical humor (though I firmly believe that most human beings also fall outside the hierarchy's absurd parameters in being capable of at least a handful of valuable things).

Be a man…at least show where you are coming from. - If you would be so kind as to direct your attention to the very top of the page which you are now viewing, you will see a name - Z. Constantine - which, expanded, will yield Zachary Constantine - perhaps your concerns about this confusing "The Operator" business will be allayed. Taken outside the context of the greater amount of material which is slowly taking form here, I can see where one could easily skip over that minor inconvenience of reading what is presented on every page to miss my name or the point of "The Operator" as a locus for demagoguery.

... You can hide and spew BS out…doesn’t matter to us. - But it did matter to you, Bill, and that is why I will forever hold you in my heart as a visitor who decided to leave a drive-by comment on my blog without first orienting himself to the underlying humor, purpose, and authorial attribution which I am clumsily striving towards.

If you'll humor me for a moment, perhaps I can ask you a question - where is all your confusion and anger stemming from?

Did I strike a nerve or something ..?

I'll understand if I never hear back - just keep doing whatever it is that you do (insofar as it falls outside the hierarchy).

And that puts you where? All of the above? Trying to teach, but failing...using an initial and a fake name, the operator, to get your ridiculous point of view out? Be a man...at least show where you are coming from. Or, you can hide and spew BS out...doesn't matter to us.
